I checked out this album not knowing at all what to expect, all I knew was that The dollyrots are a American pop punk band composed of Kelly Ogdon (bass, vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) and boy is it catchy as hell. A perfect way to describe them is if you replaced Bowling For Soups vocalist with that of the Dollyrots. Not to say there ripping of there sound but the influence is easy to tell. They add there own mix to create a blend of catchy pop punk with attitude and influences form other genres along the way. To me it sounds like anthem pop punk and roll. Its defiantly one of those albums to listen to in the car on a sunny day with the roof down.
Its hard to compare there latest album to there earlier stuff but from what I am told its a more polished record and lyrically more different approach to some of the songs as they tackle issues such as been obsessed by the way you look,"Pretty on the Inside," and people who are obsessed by fame and the the VIP lifestyle, "FU Famous," Theres times where its hard to take there lyrics seriously as her voice is so angel like and innocent. Not something you would expect of a rebellious punk band. Maybe there best sticking to what they do best, singing fun catchy songs about going out and partying. Not to say there bad songs at all but its hard to take them serious, having said that "Pretty on the Inside," is one of my favourite tracks on the album.
The album starts of in great form the the amazingly catchy song "I Wanna Go, " which will have you dancing around the room singing along to the chorus. swell as songs like " I am Awesome," which was another personal favourite of mine which ended the album in fashion. other songs I'd recommend are "Twist me to the left," and "so wrong its right," are just straight up easy listening to fun and addictive. There is not much filler on the album but there's a few tracks which do give you time for a breather from the onslaught. I'd defiantly recommend this album and The Dollyrots in general if your a an of the genre.
